64 Players started the Professionals' Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Play started promptly at 1:00 p.m. as advertised with penalty points being awarded for late-comers. This came as a bit of a surprise to some players who are used to tournaments starting late. They have obviously never been to one of Mike Main's tournaments before!
The first two rounds saw many of the pre-tournament favourites fall. Tobias Hellwag was defeated by Chris Bray. Rachel Rhodes took out last year's winner Simon Barget. Carlo Melzi defeated Bob Koca. Engin Ongel vanquished Peter Bennet.
We are now down to the last 9 players.
The Quarter Finals will be:
Bartolomeo Migliore Vs Carlo Melzi
Paul Weaver Vs Eric McAlpine
Martin Barkwill Vs Alfonso Sara
Julian Minwalla Vs Chris Bray or Fabio Gullotta
4 Brits still left in flying the local flag. And a very strong Itallian contingent.
